Eighteen-year-old Elora hid under her covers, hoping not to be spotted by the raiders, but they found her, so she and her sister are carried through the streets of their little village and thrown in the hold of a ship. In a journey of several weeks, they are taken across the sea to an unknown land. Before the ship arrives, Elora is singled out as being special, more beautiful and sensual than the other captives. The leader of the raiders tells her that she won’t be sold at auction like the other slaves; instead, she’ll be given to the Commander. Although she is fearful at first, Elora quickly embraces her captors, so she is rewarded with better treatment and far more freedom than the other captives. Already her transformation has begun, and the fishmonger’s daughter will become a courtesan of powerful Commander, a man who will teach her the ways of her new land and, at the same time, instruct her in the mysteries of sex and surrender.

When the raiders finally reach their destination, the White City, Elora is astonished at the beauty that surrounds her. The Commander is a sensual man, who never keeps a slave who doesn’t interest him. But he keeps Elora at his side, teaching her the customs of her new land by day and more intimate matters in the evening. Elora finds the experience fascinating rather than frightening and embraces her new lover and his realm with eager enthusiasm.

Author Maillol writes with skill, so it’s easy to picture her landscapes, whether she is describing the forbidding seacoast or the luxurious home of the Commander. Everything about ACROSS THE SEA is vast, from the word count to the detailed descriptions of her characters’ sensual encounters. Some of the happenings in this novel are outlandish, but the setting supports them. Occasional breaks in the timeline do tend to be distracting, however.

Elora is an interesting character from the outset, and the plot moves along, twisting and turning, while broadening her characterization as she has myriad adventures in the far off land across the sea.

Episode Four: THE BEACH ALIBI – Get deep undercover with Kelly John Beach, SG-5
Episode Five: THE MCKENZIE ARTIFACT – Get what you came for with Eli McKenzie, SG-5

This review is from Episode One: THE BANE AFFAIR. Christian Bane is part of a covert ops group gathered by Hank Smithson, who put together the five-man Smithson Group. He handpicked each and every one of them.

Christian Bane is the quietest of the group. Will this quiet one be able to impersonate Peter Deacon, a man working for the syndicate known as Spectra IT? Christian was saved by Hank from a prison deep in the Thailand jungle. Though Hank would trust Christian with his life, Christian carries a look—both haunted and hunted—that worries Hank. Once Christian knows that the syndicate is holding another innocent man hostage, he’s more than willing to take on the assignment.

Natasha Gaudet has life rather easy. Her job, where her employer is her godfather, is on a huge estate. Upon arriving to work one day, she notices that her godfather has a visitor—a rare occurrence. A rich, intense visitor, who appears to look into her, through her, and for what she tries desperately to hide from the world. How can he do that? They haven’t even met. Furthermore, her godfather informs Natasha that she is to be Peter Deacon’s entertainment during his stay—seeing to his every need.

Considering the two have a soul-deep connection from first glance, this does not prove to be a hardship to either one of them. Christian’s job as impersonating Deacon includes having to take the gorgeous Natasha to bed. Having already scored with his Ferrari—she has a thing for cars, expensive cars—that'll be easy. Christian was entranced from when he saw her picture in the portfolio he received from his employer. Christian’s first order of business is to determine whether or not Natasha is as dirty as her godfather, or at least aware of his crimes. If he has to, he’ll expose her, along with her godfather, Wickam Bow, but he will most certainly enjoy her luscious body first. It doesn’t take Christian long to determine that Natasha is completely innocent and has no knowledge of Wick’s wrongdoing. From Wick’s point of view, Natasha makes the perfect pawn. This is wonderful for a man who enjoys playing with people’s lives.

Lines are getting blurred the more time Christian spends with Natasha. Something is very, very wrong. They both feel the same way—about a lot of things. But both are reluctant to share their close, personal feelings. Christian has a painful past, like most of the SG operatives. However, the source of his betrayal, and the brutality he subsequently endured, was because of a woman. Sworn to never, ever trust a woman, here is Natasha. Is she at all like the woman who once betrayed him? Is she in cahoots with her very dirty godfather? Christian better find out, and quickly, because their intensely passionate time together becomes far more than sex.

Natasha is burning through each and every one of Christian's barriers. There is one scene—a particular shower scene—that is utterly moving. Not because of the shared explosive passion, but because Christian reveals a part of himself he's successfully managed to hide from Natasha. This scene may indeed be the most powerful scene of this amazing, chilling, and compelling read by Kent. To witness Peter and Natasha's finding something more fulfilling than love—peace—is a touching, affecting experience that I won't forget for a long time to come.

THE BANE AFFAIR is a superb book! It is full of fears and secrets, and the inability to know what is real and not real. Also, danger is high on the list, as well as figuring out who to trust. This is a chilling story of deceit, in part because Natasha can't help but worry whether she's a fringe benefit, or if it could possibly be the real thing with her and Peter, especially once the true danger—and the truth—is revealed.

There are four more books to follow, one each month through February of 2005. If you are anything like this reader, you are NOT going to want to miss a single book in this series. The books are listed above, and you can visit Ms. Kent's website to learn more.

When Gabriel Letourneau, the keeper of the Vampiric territory in and around Newville, learned of Fate Harding’s ability to travel through dreams, he became her secret protector. After five years of watching over her, keeping her safe from the Dominion, evil creatures that feed on human emotions during dreams, Gabriel plans to finally introduce himself and take Fate to his bed.

At a charity auction, Fate meets the deliciously sexy Gabriel Letourneau. She feels the heat between them and wonders what sex with a Vampir would be like. At the end of the night, Fate scans the room for Gabriel, but he’s nowhere around. More than a little disappointed, she leaves. On the way home, a rogue Vampir and his human companion attack her. The Vampir bites her, forces her to drink blood, and then dumps her on Gabriel’s doorstep.

Soon after Fate leaves, Gabriel senses something is wrong and goes after her. When he finds her abandoned car and evidence of a struggle, he begins a frantic search, which, to his surprise, ends on his doorstep. Rage courses through him when he sees the fang marks on her neck. Fate is an unmarked human, which means that, if she isn’t strong enough to make the complete transformation to fully Embraced Vampir, she will be a Demi-Vampir, forced to feed on sex to survive. Gabriel soon realizes Fate’s attack was carried out to hurt him. He knows he’s made several enemies in his nearly four hundred years as a Vampir, but who hates him enough to Embrace an innocent, unmarked human—and why?

The story of the Embraced and their fight against the Dominion began in the excellent book, BLOOD OF THE ROSE, and now it continues in BLOOD OF THE RAVEN - a truly fabulous sequel. Gabriel and Fate are both incredibly strong characters and share an intense passion. Gabriel hasn’t allowed anyone into his heart in over three hundred years, and he’s finally ready to take that leap, but Fate needs some convincing. She’s been hurt before and wants proof that Gabriel plans on sticking around. He wins her love by believing in her, protecting her, and fulfilling all her sexual fantasies.

Ms. Bast’s intriguing secondary characters enhance this thrilling book. I think Niccolo, Charlie, Adam, and Mihail all need stories of their own. I hope Ms. Bast feels the same way and gives them to us soon.

Dr. Alexandria Frazier, scientist and space explorer, commands the Methuselah, a NASA sponsored deep space exploration vessel. As the leader of the mission, she has a heavy responsibility, and as a woman, she bears an even heavier burden, the death of her beloved husband Robert. When the Methuselah approaches Earth, returning from its voyage, disaster strikes. Most of the crew dies, leaving Alex with three trusted male companions and a chronometer that tells them that somehow they’ve managed to travel through time for approximately a hundred million years.

The planet on which they make landfall doesn’t resemble the Earth that Alex and her crewmates remember. Nor do the inhabitants, either humanoid or wildlife, resemble those of the twenty-first century. In peril from the first, Alex and her crewmates struggle to survive. Captured by Fija, a local leader of the Takuri, Alex and her companions learn that this version of Earth is matriarchal, a society in which women rule and males are little better than slaves and that they expect a savior, Alexandria the Great, to enable them to overcome their enemies.

After the requisite journey, wherein Fija and Alex get to know and respect each other, Fija comes to believe that Alex is indeed the prophesied queen, but the malicious Malix, leader of the Xandi, captures Alex, placing her in a cage in the dungeon. Determined to free their commander, regardless of her savior status, her crewmates lead a rescue party to the lair of the leader of the Xandi, but within those same walls, Alex’s will is gradually being broken, and soon she submits to the reptilian enemy that has been haunting the humanoids and her own dreams.

BREEDING GROUND is a complex tale, a true futuristic which blends science and world building with fantastic plot elements and a varied cast of characters. Alex is skillfully drawn, an alpha female with a haunted past, and the reader wants her to succeed, even when the situation is increasingly hopeless. The plot twists and turns and the ending isn’t quite what the reader expects, despite ample foreshadowing. Black has woven a fascinating tale, with an engaging main character, where the story comes first and the sensual scenes add spice—lots of spice.

Jayden’s grandmother had always warned her to stay indoors on nights she deemed were ripe for a DEMON WIND. Jayden had never believed her grandmother until the night she experienced one herself.

Jayden woke up and realized from the heat that her air conditioner had stopped working again. She went outside to bang on it with a hammer, her way of coaxing it to start again, when she suddenly found herself walking on the beach. She stopped at the water’s edge where she felt a cool breeze. There he was walking toward her looking like a god. They came together as if they knew each other. The next morning Jayden woke up late remembering her erotic dream. Or was it a dream? She had sand in her bed and her hair.

What a fabulous book! The romantic story behind the demon wind origination made this book a must read. Jayden and Tyce really turn up the heat level with their encounter on the beach and the ending will make you sigh with happiness. Don’t miss this one!

Nadja Aleksander seeks refuge from her controlling father and from an arranged marriage. Desperate to escape, Nadja hopes that through Galaxy Brides she will get away from her father and be able to live an anonymous life in some far off part of the galaxy.

Prince Olek of Draig is drawn to Nadja from the first moment he lays eyes on her. The magical crystal around his neck claims Nadja as his soul mate, and they complete the Quirilixen ritual of bonding. However, all is not perfect, as Nadja feels betrayed by Olek's lie of omission, the omission being that he is a member of the royal family of Quirilixen. Will Nadja and Olek ever be able to trust each other and give in to the love and desire they both feel?

I was utterly enchanted by Michelle M. Pillow's THE PERFECT PRINCE. The first great thing about THE PERFECT PRINCE was Nadja and Olek. I loved Nadja. She was the quintessential romance heroine—strong, brave, and protective of those she loves. I especially adored Olek, who exuded male strength, but was patient, loving, and easy-going. The conversations and witty banter between these two often made me smile and laugh.

Ms. Pillow's strong characters, fast-paced plot, and steamy sexual encounters made this an outstanding book. I so loved reading about the princes we know and the ones yet to have their stories told. While this is a book in a series, it can be read alone, but I guarantee that, if you haven't read DRAGON LORDS BOOK ONE: THE BARBARIAN PRINCE, you will want to after reading THE PERFECT PRINCE.

Ms. Pillow's talent for storytelling is sure to make her a renowned author of the romance genre.

Rowena, a lovely young maiden with a dark and mysterious heritage, has been chosen by her village to be sacrificed to the dragon that has been terrorizing the countryside. Drugged and bound, she awaits her fate with resignation. Apparently no one in her village can remember one of the previous sacrifices actually surviving, so she doesn’t wonder if she’ll die; rather, she wonders when she’ll die and how. Once the dragon comes to claim her, she is swept away, literally, by the huge winged creature. However, it isn’t long before he lands and releases her from his grasp. Shocked that she won’t be dinner, she learns that the magnificent dragon wants her for his lair.

Being the mate of a dragon isn’t exactly what the comely Rowena had in mind for her life, but she does realize that her village didn’t want her or she wouldn’t have been chosen to be the sacrifice, and the dragon does seem to enjoy her company. The handsome and not so fierce dragon has many treasures and many secrets in his lair, which can only be reached by air. Rowena enjoys exploring both his treasures and his body. Although she was a virgin when he took her, the dragon soon teaches her sensual pleasures and the pair seems compatible. Indeed, life with the dragon might be pleasant enough, if Rowena could simply forget all the happenings in her nearby homeland. Alas, there are things happening down there which interest her greatly, and so Rowena feels compelled to leave her dragon, at least temporarily, so she can visit loved ones in the village.

DRAGON'S TRIBUTE isn’t highly original, but it is a pleasant diversion. The characters are appealing and the plot is suspenseful. Author Carter borrows from myth and folklore to create her fantasy world, but the characters are almost anachronistic. Rowena is as sassy as any contemporary heroine, and her dragon is just a bit too understanding for times gone by. Never the less, DRAGON'S TRIBUTE handily blends sensual romance and fantasy into a trim and tidy little tale that readers of this genre are sure to enjoy.

OVEREXPOSED by Sherri L. King

The Shikars rely upon extreme caution to prevent the human world from discovering them and the war between them and the Daemons. Unfortunately, a young photographer has proof that something is not all that it seems and Agate is the perfect person to discover what he knows…in any way possible.

I love the Shikar series and I was definitely not disappointed with this chapter in the series. I always wondered about Agate and her fascination with the human race. I had a feeling that they would send her to find out all they could about this human threat to their race. I had a feeling that from the first book in the Shikar series that the website Voyeurs had a special purpose. I love the way that the author made Agate's character so effectively ignorant of human culture and such. The coffee scene was great! Good job!

LOOKING FORWARD by Mary Wine

The overcrowding of Earth has forced many to homestead onto different planets. Leah agrees, but finds herself the object of a Tailarmarian warrior's desire.

I loved this story! The incorporation of the homesteading and making the community Leah was a part of as some kind of misguided Quaker population was brilliant. I wanted something good and steamy to happen to Leah and the author did not disappoint me.

RAPTOR'S PREY by Delilah Devlin

Captain Andromeda O'Keefe awakens in her suspension chamber to find that the prisoner she was transporting has escaped. Khalim has one goal and one goal only, to seduce Andromeda and win his freedom at the same time.

I can only imagine waking up in my chryo chamber and discovering my cargo was walking around with control of my ship. This story reminded me of Supernova, but with a happier ending. A recommended read for a stormy night.

SCARLET SWEET by Anya Bast

Cerian is the leader of her people and the only way to continue leading and prevent a disaster is to become something none of her kind has ever achieved. The vampire sent to transform her is not what she expects. Dark and handsome with an undercurrent of sexual promise. Rhys is there to do one thing and one thing only, but after sampling a taste of Cerian's charms, it’s not so easy to say goodbye.

When I read the synopsis of this story I was instantly intrigued. I had yet to read a story that combined vampires and the fae folk together, much less in romantic connotations. I wasn't sure how it would work out and if it would work out, but I'm happy to say that it did. The two main characters lived up to their descriptions, two strong warrior leaders. I knew when these two got together the sparks were going leap off the page.

WOLF'S LAW by Cheyenne McCray

Law has always promised never to take a human mate, but when he rescues Analeen from danger, his heart begins to demand the impossible. But how can he get past the fact that Analeen's mother was murdered by a wolf?

This author always does a good job with creating a believable atmosphere and likewise characters. Law and Analeen were two different characters, but at the same time similar. They both were strong in different ways, but not so strong that they couldn't depend upon each other. I wondered how Law would deal with falling in love with a human especially since this human was deathly afraid of wolves. No story is promised a happy ending so I was glad when Analeen was able to give her heart to Law.

WRITERS UNBLOCKED by Diana Hunter

Jack and Jessica Blackburn are two of the hottest romance writers in the business. Unfortunately, their married life is a direct contrast to the steamy reads that they both create. Neither knows how to fix the problem until Jack stumbles upon a secret text of Jessica's.

Whew hoo, two steamy romance authors under one roof. If a laptop could sizzle, I know mine was. Jessica and Jack was (were) a healthy married couple that had so much potential. I hoped that they would burn my fingers off my laptop and I was not disappointed. They were habanera hot and I definitely needed a glass of water after this read.

Best-selling author Devlin Devoe receives a scathing review from Sam. Before they actually meet, they spot each other across the building’s lobby—and a sizzling attraction occurs for each of them. Disturbed that she is the first woman in a while Dev’s had such a powerful attraction to he has no choice but to confront her. When he does, the sparks fly—igniting a flame of passion that is almost too overwhelming—especially when emotions are mixed in. Can Sam and Dev take a step back and see if their differences can be overcome? When you read this sizzling novella by Stone, I'm confident that you'll find this character-driven story to be quite compelling.

DISCOVERING AVA by Simone Harlow

Jillian Walters is a successful, albeit plain, executive assistant who happens to be in love with her boss, Gavin Alexander. But Jillian has a secret—she is the famous erotic writer Ava de Winters. What ends up happening when her boss seduces Ava? Considering Gavin picked up the wrong stack of files from Jillian's desk—her erotic manuscripts—it seems that Jillian is about to have all her dreams come true. Aroused beyond belief that his dowdy, all-business assistant writes erotica, Gavin can't wait to read her work—and find a way to get between the sheets with the intriguing Jillian—or is it Ava? Both have secrets. Will the truth destroy the amazing connection they share, or is there enough emotion to bring the two together permanently?

BEDTIME STORIES is a quick erotic read, certain to arouse the reader. Both stories are done well, especially FLAME by Ms. Stone. Harlow’s story is a bit more risqué, especially since Jillian has found it necessary to hide her true sensual nature.

If you want to enjoy a titillating read, don’t miss EROTIC ANTHOLOGY: BEDTIME STORIES.

Masquerading as Ivory, Diana sits back and watches a revealing and arousing game of blind man’s bluff. Unfortunately, when the next player appears, Diana recognizes him, and fearing her true identity will be revealed, she flees.

Concerned about the young woman’s sudden flight, Lucien follows her and offers his assistance. Once he gets her in his carriage, he learns who she really is and why she was in the brothel. He agrees that she needs an adventure and proceeds to make an intriguing proposition. He promises to spend the next few days giving her all the sexual pleasure she can handle, without taking her virginity, and when they’re done, they can each go their own separate way.

But once Lucien awakens Diana’s sensual nature, will they be able to leave each other’s arms?

There’s never a dull moment in A GENTLEMAN SEDUCED. Ms. Page has filled this searing Regency romance with page after page of scorching, pulse-pounding sex. Her lively, adventurous characters are delightful. Lucien, a devilishly sexy rake, introduces Diana to the world of sensual pleasure, showing her things she never dreamed of. She eagerly learns all he teaches, and soon, she’s teaching him a few things.

This story has an uncomplicated, engaging plot, which allows the focus to remain on the red-hot sex. So, if you want a steamy read with lots of variety in the sex scenes, you should give A GENTLEMAN SEDUCED a try. It is, most definitely, an arousing read.

Joshua Thomas is a different type of vampire. He feeds off of the emotions—and sometimes the sexual highs - of women. Joshua hated his life, so he learned to channel his energy - while feeding his need - through his amazing, soul-touching music.

Devra Preston has achieved a lot of fame as a columnist. It is her curiosity that gets her the stories that have allowed her such a rise in fame. When her best friend Susan tells her about this amazing music she heard from a live pianist and how it affected her and every woman in the audience, Devra senses she has just found another winning story. She approaches her boss, her uncle, and he tells her to go for it. Eager and willing, Devra first searches online for background information on the mysterious Joshua Thomas—but she finds absolutely nothing. Home sick with the flu, she misses his next performance. Then it appears she’s missed him entirely, as she now cannot find any details on upcoming performances. Finally she gets a lead! Devra jumps on it and attends the performance. She finds herself more than captivated. She nearly climaxes when hearing his music—and so does the almost entirely female audience. She manages to get backstage and demands a story—and the truth. What does he do to so captivate his audience? She is not prepared for two things: his sheer intensity and her visceral reaction to him. She soon leaves—without a story, and certainly without answers.

Joshua’s kind must find a true mate, or else they die. When he meets the spunky reporter, he wonders if the whole idea behind finding a true mate is really true, because this Devra Preston affects him as no other woman in his entire existence. His close friend and fellow vampire, Damon, is very unhappy, and Joshua’s parents, whom he completely confides in, remind him that finding a true mate—and soon—is imperative, and that Damon is dying, as nearly too much time has passed for him to find a mate. This makes Joshua think—whenever he will see Devra again, could she be "the one"?

Joshua never realized how empty his life was. He was fully immersed in his music. But meeting Devra—only once, and very briefly—has truly made him wonder. He literally cannot wait to meet her again. The things he wants to do to her...

Devra is shocked at how she responds to Joshua, especially once they meet again. What’s happening to her? Certainly she’s not falling in love, not after her disastrous marriage and her rotten ex-husband! But Joshua makes her feel things—more than she’s ever felt before. What is it about this man? Also, who is this friend of his, Damon, who upsets her more than she could ever have imagined?

Joshua must tell her the truth about himself, and soon, especially since Damon made contact with her. Will his secret turn her away? Will she expose him in her article? Devra is a feisty young woman, certainly no pushover. Admittedly, she is more than intrigued with Joshua, but that doesn’t mean she’ll just let him take what he wants. Yet, there is the idea of fate—can a person push their fate away, or will it come no matter what?

Be prepared to be enraptured when you pick up your copy of HAUNTING MELODY. Put the kids to bed early and shut your phone off. You will be captivated by this story and will not want to be interrupted. Yes, indeed, Ms. Reed tells a sensual, stirring story that will tempt the reader to read from start to finish in one sitting. Joshua’s story is compelling, as is the love and connection that develops between him and Devra. We also get a hint that Damon needs help, and I really hope he will get it in an upcoming story by Reed.

HOMETOWN HERO is a sexy, quick read that will have the reader longing for a younger man. Dylan is charming, relentless, and has plenty of stamina. That combination will surely please any woman. The sex is scorching and the chemistry is sizzling. Ms. Templeton pens a short read that goes a long way in the pleasure department.

Hana, Second Daughter of War of The House of Moons, is a woman who questions everything and has always wanted more than the elders would allow. Now, she just may be about to get her wish in the form of the dreaded Seeding Ritual. In order to cement peace between her own house and the Daughters of Lore, she must take part in this ritual even though she hates it with a passion, for if she refuses to do so, she will be executed. With thoughts of dislike and hatred for the ritual running through her mind, she views the male captive who is blindfolded and bound in chains to the platform. From the moment she sees his delicious form laid out for the taking, she can’t turn away. His very lips call out to her.

While searching for his kidnapped sister, Kiel Lonriev is captured by The Daughters of The House of Moons. He’s given the Ozera flower, an aphrodisiac, which enables him to service all the daughters who are of age and scheduled for breeding. During the ritual he discovers another of his kind and calls out to her asking why she doesn’t help him. When she eventually does help him escape, he is so enraged over his rape that he kidnaps Hana.

Now the captive of a Cross-Worlder, Hana is about to discover that everything she’s been taught and raised to believe are lies. Then, to further complicate matters, she’s now bound by a permanent bond forged by the call of blood and magic, a bond which she wants no part of, but which she may not be able to escape from.

What an awesome start to a series! HOUSE OF MOONS 1: THE SEEDING blends sexual heat with a wonderful plotline. There’s magic, telepathy, opposing sides, intrigue, and a build-up leading to the next chapter in the House of Moons that leaves you counting the moments until you get to read it. Both Hana and Kiel are strong characters. They’re realistic in their portrayal, enabling the reader to understand why they both fight against their attraction to the other and why they are so angry at one another. The sex is hot, hot, hot—yet manages to come across erotically to the reader. This reader heartily recommends Kara Fey’s HOUSE OF MOONS 1: THE SEEDING to those who love reading fantasy, romance, and books of an erotic nature. You won’t be disappointed!

Kell is a man who’s been frozen in ice and about to melt the panties off the woman he’s determined to have.

Allie’s a linguist, and she has been called to assist in a top-secret project. She has no idea she is about to meet the man who will change her life forever. When Allie meets Kell, the ultimate Alpha man, the attraction is instantaneous.

Kell has been awakened after being frozen for millennia to a world that is vastly different than the one he knew. Kell realizes that all he knew—friends, family, and his way of life—are all gone. This strange, new world that surrounds him is a challenge for this ice man. One thing is for sure, though: the woman who has been summoned to help him adapt to this modern world is the woman he is determined to have as his own.

ICE MAN was a fantastic, suspense-filled journey for this reader. Kell endeared himself to me as he learned about “our time.” The relationship between Allie and Kell was not only both erotic and tender, but realistic. Kell has lost a lot, but he gains it back triple-fold in getting to know Allie. As Allie learns about Kell’s past, she begins to see him as a part of her future. Ms. Winston’s humor—writing about Kell’s learning to use our modern conveniences—had me chuckling. There is an interesting secondary character named Bryce Steele who will have you yearning for his story to be told soon. You will not want to put ICE MAN down until you have read the very last page. Thank you, Ms. Winston, for a great read.

Rating:

Kristine Granger, an assistant state’s attorney still wet behind the ears, is about to try her first big case—the prosecution of an alleged drug dealer. Due to a tragedy in her past, Kristine has plenty of motivation to put such scum behind bars. Her opposition turns out to be none other than Tony Landry, a suave and sophisticated partner in a high-end law firm. Knowing that she’s the underdog doesn’t intimidate Kristine nearly as much as her attraction to Tony distracts her from her just cause.

Despite the weak case, Kristine gives it her all, but her efforts are in vain. Tony wins the case, setting his client free, but his heart continues to long for Kristine. In an unusual twist of fate, a traffic accident gives him a chance to win her heart, and he makes the most of it. Before long, the courtroom adversaries are an item, complicating her budding legal career.

Ann Jacobs has written several romantica pieces featuring lawyers, and once again her characters are well crafted and engaging. Jacobs moves the action along, expertly developing the complex relationship between the romantic leads, but she never abandons her storyline for gratuitous sexual encounters. The love scenes add to the story without taking over. Instead, Tony holds back a portion of himself, for he is unsure that someone as whole-heartedly good as Kristine would want a shyster like him, haunted by his past.

Indeed, there is much to like about this book, including the author’s skillful use of the hot Florida setting. Only those readers who insist on hot sex in every chapter are likely to be disappointed by IN HIS OWN DEFENSE, which is a love story rather than a lust story.

Rating:

Enriquo DiRinaldi wants a wife and children. Due to a very unfortunate accident, he was first in a coma and is now unable to walk. Though engaged to a model, he suddenly drops her and proposes a marriage of convenience to Gianna Lakewood. Gianna not only wants a baby herself, she has been attracted to Rico since she was a teenager—so she agrees. Though Rico wants to have children, he must wonder if Gianna will stay with him, especially when the matter of his paralysis remains of concern. Add to that the complication of his brother’s seeming affections for Gianna and Rico’s former fiancée appearing back on the scene, and you have all the elements of a heartrending story.

When you read THE ITALIAN’S SUITABLE WIFE, you may do as I did—read it in one sitting—it is that captivating. First, Rico’s tragic hospitalization—and then Gianna’s unending support while he was in a coma. Her feelings of love poured through her—and through the pages of the book. If it is true that coma patients hear people speaking to them, then it makes sense why Rico would drop his beautiful fiancée for Gianna—a woman he first only saw as a close family friend, like a sister. But, that view has changed.

Ms. Monroe writes a compelling, sensitive story. Almost heartbreaking, but not entirely, as it surely left a smile on my face.

JUST A HINT, CLINT
Lori Foster

Contemporary Romance
Reviewer: Robin Taylor

Rating:

Clint Evans is a mercenary hired by a man named Robert Burns whose fiancée, Julie Rose, is missing. Apparently, Robert suspects foul play, but play is the key word here, as Robert appears to be fabricating part of his story. He makes comments that he insists either she's been snatched or has run off on her own. He mentions the name of Asa Ragon, suggesting he believes Asa kidnapped Julie. Who is Asa, does he have Julie, and what is Robert's real involvement in this?

Something is pulling at Clint. Though he truly believes Julie Rose is in desperate trouble, he doesn't believe a word of Burns' story. With his partners and best friends, Mojo and Red, he sets out to rescue Julie. What he sees, when they find her, sets him off. They’ve hurt her, and he can’t bear to see a woman suffering. He quickly takes care of the four men who have Julie, hurting them, but not killing them. He takes Julie to safety, but when he contacts Robert, it is after Julie tells him she does not have a fiancé. Yet, he contacts Robert, and Robert oddly enough asks him to “keep” Julie for at least a week, as he’s still trying to figure out who took Julie to begin with, as it apparently wasn’t Asa Ragon. Clint still smells something funny, but he honors Robert’s request, not because Robert asks, but because of two reasons: his gut feeling that something is way off and the surprisingly sizzling emotional connection he feels with her. His feelings toward Julie are of a protective nature, but that is only part of it. There is also a strong sexual draw, but he doesn’t want to scare Julie away.

Mojo and Red take off, leaving Clint to protect Julie. Though Clint intends on using this time to find out the truth behind her abduction, why Robert is lying, and other things that don’t add up, he knows that he can’t resist her much longer.

Julie had never been so afraid in her life. But she’s never felt so safe in her life since Clint rescued her. She’s more than glad she’s got at least a week with him. He appeals to her on a level like no other. She knows it goes beyond the fact that he rescued her, but that still doesn’t explain why she feels so safe, and trusts him so much.

Nature is a powerful force—especially when you have two people who have a chemistry that is about to explode. Once Clint and Julie enjoy each other, they both realize, yet hide their feelings, that this is deep, very deep, and a week might not be long enough—forever might not be long enough.

Passion, desire, intrigue, deceit, and danger are all integral parts of JUST A HINT, CLINT. We also discover that Julie has a connection to Visitation, North Carolina, and to some of the characters Lori Foster fans have come to know and love: Joe and Luna Winston, Bruce, Bryan, Cyn, Shay, Jamie Creed, and others. Just before her kidnapping, Julie abandoned her trust fund and got a teaching assignment in a place that feels like home, and she can’t wait to get back to Visitation. What a nice surprise for me, the reader!

Ever vigilant, Clint is putting the pieces of this puzzle together, but then there is a surprising, jaw-dropping twist! I thought I was right there with Clint on solving the crime, but leave it to Ms. Foster to create an amazing twist, and an even more amazing conclusion to a superb story! If the pages hadn’t been flying through my hands to begin with, the conclusion was so captivating, wild horses couldn’t drag me away.

JUST A HINT, CLINT is a wonderfully engaging read—one that readers of Lori Foster books will not want to miss. A hint, btw, about Jamie Creed. We learn more about him in this book, so pay special attention to the conclusion of this story. As always, Ms. Foster has written another winner, and she keeps getting better and better.

JoJo Hammond is entranced by the love charm that the old woman in the alley in Chinatown gives her. It seems to hum with its own life force and makes her feel a little out of sorts. One moment, she is witnessing what seems to be heading towards a fatal incident, and the next, she is being whisked away by a handsome stranger. She is strongly attracted to Miles Ashton; her charm literally thrums when he is near. Yet he is unable to buy into the idea of a love charm, and he can’t seem to just go with the feelings that she is making him feel.

Miles is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, due to the loss of his fiancée. JoJo evokes feelings in him that he long thought were dead, and that makes him feel guilty. When he stumbles upon her, he can’t deny himself the pleasure of having her, yet the moment that it is over, he can’t deal with what has happened. He refuses to have anything to do with her, especially when she tells him about the love charm. However, the more that he tries to avoid her, the more impossible avoiding her becomes. Miles is inexplicably drawn to JoJo, but would he be if the love charm didn’t exist? Does he really believe in love charms?

THE LOVE CHARM is a humorous story full of sexual tension and heated scenes. In her typical style, Ms. Starr writes a sensual, sexual tale that enthralls the reader from the very start. Miles and JoJo are a perfect pair, if they can only get past the issues that are keeping them apart. Miles is a suffering soul who needs JoJo to help him recuperate from his past sufferings. JoJo, on the other hand, needs Miles to open her up to sexual experiences and maybe even love.

Aubrey Ross’s MYSTIC KEEPER 1: CAYENNE is one hot read. It starts off with a bang of sexual tension and doesn’t let up. You have questions that need answering and the discovery of a variety of Keepers to anticipate. Unfortunately, by the end of the book you’re left wanting and, now, must deal with the wait for the second in the series. Ellie is the first woman to touch him on a deep, personal level, and he has no intention of letting her deny the feelings that he knows she feels for him. As the story begins, Lauren Emory, a former archeology student from New York, has crossed to Anfall in search of her brother. Clad in ragged clothing, she has worked her way around the realm, waiting tables and trying to find out what happened to her beloved Tim, her only remaining kinsman. Alone, she is increasingly desperate to find him and return home.

Kasmarin, Prince Adept of Anfall and brother of the king, has been following Lauren, for her energy feels much like that of his fallen comrade, Tim Emory, who had emigrated to Anfall, a land which is home for the descendants of persecuted adepts from New York City in the Great Lands. When Kas confronts Lauren, she attempts to ward him off with her magic, but the prince has greater power and is far more practiced in using it. Lauren reluctantly decides to journey with Kas, for he has information about her brother.

Kas treats Lauren with great care and respect, for he is aware that the king of Anfall is destined to wed an adept from the Great Lands, and he is certain that Lauren is the prophesied queen. But Lauren refuses to consider meeting his brother, the king, until every effort has been made to find her brother, or there’s positive proof that he met his demise when he was captured by the malevolent forces of Talinthall.

Their adventures comprise much of the novel, which is well written, with engaging characters and the requisite blending of cultures. Certain elements, such as magic and a supernatural evil foe, which one expects in fantasy, are present, but the story is primarily a romance. So Lauren and her lover have many obstacles to avoid as they journey to their mutual destiny. While THE PRINCES OF ANFALL may not sizzle as much as some of the pieces reviewed here, it is a warm, fuzzy story and a pleasant diversion, especially for those who enjoy feisty heroines, magic, and hot princes who ride white horses.

Amanda Zachary has experienced the ultimate betrayal—her husband cheating on her with another woman and a man—and she walked in on the busy threesome! So, Amanda’s starting over. The first feeling she claims is a relief that she no longer has to suffer the emotional abuse of her husband—all critical comments and sexual rejection. It is time to take her life into her own hands and to start enjoying it.

Amanda has a good job. She is on the inside fast track at Extant Corporation. Investing her time, energy, and emotion in her career made more sense than giving those precious resources to her jerk of a husband, or any other man for that matter. She’s about to face a serious, hardcore businessman, Simon Brant, as her newest assignment is to try to get her company to merge with Brant Computers. From the outset, Simon is against the merger. Furthermore, Simon is an eccentric genius, and Amanda finds it difficult to hold his attention long enough to get her presentation through to him.

Simon has a goal. The entire computer industry is racing to see who can develop a usable prototype of a fiber-optic processor, and he is determined to be the first. Worrying about a merger that could cost people their jobs is at the bottom of his scale of interest.

Amanda mentally went over the game plan for her upcoming meeting with the president of Brant Computers as the elevator made its ascent. She could barely believe her luck. When she had put the proposal for a friendly merger before the Executive Management Team at Extant Corporation, she hadn’t been sure they’d go for it. Having been chosen over several colleagues to make the initial approach to Eric Brant could mean a huge promotion for her. He had been receptive, and the Executive Management Team had appointed her point man for negotiations.

What is Simon’s initial problem with the merger? Aside from the fact he doesn’t want anyone losing their jobs, he reminds his cousin Eric that Brant is a family held company. If they merged, everything done for decades with Brant would be for nothing. Amanda’s first meeting with Simon is a disaster. So she shows up at his house. That doesn’t work. Simon’s irascible house man, Jacob, makes the joke that, since Simon practically lives in his laboratory, Amanda should move in—then she could possibly catch Simon long enough to actually complete her presentation. After several failed attempts to reach Simon, Amanda takes Jacob up on his offer. She is actually that desperate. Her job is at stake now.

In the meantime, business aside, when Amanda does see Simon, all she can say is, “Oh my!” He is a force of nature, with dark, exotic looks, mixed with hot desire. He raises her sensual receptors like no other man before. And, despite his crankiness and his extremely busy schedule, he’s just as affected as Amanda. He sees her as hot, beautiful, built to stop a man’s heart. And, oh, her voice!

Now these two are sharing close quarters, and it is only a matter of time before they combust. When they do come together, it is worth every second of time they can share together. Amanda had thought herself unattractive, but Simon makes her feel like a goddess. Simon has had failed relationships because of his sheer intensity, in life, and in build. He can’t believe Amanda can take him—in more ways than one—and actually enjoys being around him. So, what is the real deal taking place anyway?

While the deal is still on the table, something is going on behind the scenes. It’s hopeful that Amanda and Simon have built enough trust in one another, as what happens next is truly shocking. This particular shock is just one of many in Lucy Monroe’s utterly compelling book! I was drawn in by all the characters—Amanda, with her tough nature, despite her hurtful past; Simon, with his intensity and charm; Jacob, with his wit and role-playing; and, also, Simon’s cousin, Eric, and his wife, Elaine. This fine cast of characters, a wonderful plot that goes deeper than the actual merger, and the coming together of two people completely ideal for each other all play together to make THE REAL DEAL a fantastic book, one headed for my keeper shelf.

Sabrina Monroe is struggling to save her family home, trying to keep the Maple Inn in Vermont afloat. One day, however, she meets a stranger named Lucy. Meeting Lucy brings about many changes in her life—including being gifted with a snow globe that changes from time to time. However, apparently, only Sabrina notices the changes. Other things are happening, as well, so Sabrina truly wonders if she’s losing her mind.

In the meantime, Jason O’Neill is suddenly on the scene. Sabrina’s been waiting for a handyman, and he’s finally arrived. She puts him right to work. Only—Jason’s not the handyman. He’s the Director of Colonial Golf Resorts, and he’s been sent to attempt to buy Sabrina out. Jason is known to be ruthless, so this should be easy as pie. After all, she’s indebted up to her neck, and the inn is literally falling apart at the seams. But, Jason just can’t do what he does best. So what does he do? With many a phone call and plenty of tips from his carpenter father, Jason begins to pull the building together. In the meantime, he notices that she's fodder for gossip for the townsfolk, and that they’re more than qualified to help her—but don't.

The more time Jason spends working with Sabrina, the more he realizes how important saving the inn is to her, and so Jason begins trying to work out something that will save her home, give her enough funds to live off of, and yet, make his bosses happy.

Selena Robins writes with just the right touch when it comes to humor, especially when Sabrina begins to think she's losing her mind. SABRINA’S DESTINY is quite an enjoyable treat. It’s wonderful to see how Sabrina doesn’t see what’s right in front of her face, and how long it takes her to realize that the snow globe—which at times says Sabrina’s Destiny - is very specific to her future. Also, the extended characters in this story are a true joy—especially Ms. Elle, who delights in making Jason more than a bit nervous.

What also makes SABRINA’S DESTINY so effective is the relationship that evolves between Jason and Sabrina. There is a powerful attraction, yet they try to fight it. But, the hints that keep coming Sabrina’s way indicate that Jason might be her future, and admittedly, that scares her. What is also critical is the lack of honesty—Jason’s true identity and purpose for being at Maple Inn. It’s amazing to see how his whole life changes when he meets the woman who is indeed his destiny. Kudos to Ms. Robins for writing a delightful story, with very interesting and likable characters, while keeping the plot flowing at a good pace. I look forward to reading more from this author very soon.

SAVAGE LEGACY opens in the midst of a frightening storm as Ariel St. James flees through a driving rain, relying on the guidance of the crystal at her breast and the sword in her hand for security. The stench of death is in her nostrils and fear permeates her very being. She feels two forces in the storm, one who has held her prisoner before and one who wants to help her escape.

Shanar rescues Ariel from the storm and the immediate threat from Jonar and his warriors, and thus begins a wild journey, a Highlanderesque tale, with swords, demonic forces in hot pursuit, magic, and a sizzling love story. The quest and the romance unfold as Ariel and Shane are literally in each other’s arms each day, a powerful motorcycle throbbing beneath their thighs, not merely to escape from the forces of evil, but to find another member of their clan who will help them in the final showdown with Jonar.

This sensual novel is part of a series. Ideally, even books in a series should stand alone, and this one makes some effort to do just that, with sufficient backstory to pull a new reader into its unusual blend of modern and ancient ingredients. As the cast of characters is lengthy, a “cast of characters” list might have been helpful, however.

The romantic elements are plentiful and the relationship between Shane and Ariel, the Mistress of the Wind, develops quickly, for they have been together in previous lives. Ariel must rediscover her powers in order to take her rightful place at Shane’s side, and he is a steadfast guide as she makes both a spiritual, as well as a literal journey to fulfill her savage legacy.

SEX TRADERS is a futuristic tale that opens with Marla of the house of Torl urging her late father’s sex slaves to escape from the burning mansion that was once their home. Distraught, but determined to hide her father’s body from the malevolent Bortan raiders who have destroyed everything her father had built, Marla must stand alone. As she faces her enemy, still defiant, a magnificent man rescues her. Trev of Kopah, who has also been a victim of the Bortan attack, appears out of nowhere, ready to help. But in a scenario as familiar as Romeo and Juliet, Marla is reluctant, for Trev’s family has always been a bitter rival, and she believes that she’s literally facing two enemies at the same time. Soon the cyborg villain drives her to join Trev as they escape from the ruins of their previous lives, and the sensual attraction between them results in a physical relationship that moves at light speed.

SEX TRADERS is fairly short, but it certainly doesn’t lack heat. O’Clare’s descriptions of the past exploits of the sex slaves, the threat of rape from the marauders, and the lightning-fast romance between Marla and Trev keep the temperature soaring. What suffers is plot and character development. With so few pages and so much hot sex, the author must compromise a bit, so some readers may wish that there was a bit more world building, an integral part of futuristic stories.

Billed as the beginning of a series, SEX TRADERS could have spent a bit more time creating a universe that the reader would want to visit again. However, any more heat and the screen just might melt.

The other episodes are listed, as follows:
Episode One: The Bane Affair (October 2004)
Episode Three: The Samms Agenda (December 2004)
Episode Four: The Beach Alibi (January 2005)
Episode One: The McKenzie Artifact (February 2005)

See the exciting SG-5 website at www.smithsongroup.com. Kudos for Ms. Kent writing such an exciting series—not only do Episodes One and Two wield such powerful intensity, but she’s also made a terrific website so that we can learn all we want about the SG-5 Operatives.

Tripp Shaughnessey is more than a bit bored at the moment. One of his fellow operatives, Christian Bane, has taken a tough crime syndicate, Spectra IT, down a peg or two. Unfortunately, there are a lot more bad guys at Spectra, and Tripp is waiting for the Spectra agent he’s been assigned to make his move. For reasons unknown to Tripp and his team, the dirty agent has made Brighton’s Spud and Suds Sandwich Shop the basis of his operation - a place recently Tripp’s favorite - or more importantly, the shop owner, Glory Brighton.

Glory doesn’t know it yet, but Tripp’s made his claim - or will soon enough. They’ve been flirting like teenagers, but Tripp is ready for far more. Boredom, plus the need for more quality time with Glory, has Tripp more than a bit edgy.

Things are about to get hot and heavy - but not as Tripp would like. Glory has no idea that her shop is a target, and that her life is soon to be in imminent danger.

Glory’s prior relationships have left her with a lot of emotional baggage. That, along with Tripp’s horrific past before he was rescued and recruited by Hank Smithson, makes for a delicate relationship. Factor in the present danger, and things don't look too good at all - except when Glory stares into the beautiful eyes of Tripp Shaughnessey. He may be a boring engineer - or so she thinks - but the sizzle of attraction she feels around him is nearly enough to spark a flame.

Just as Tripp and Glory really begin to get to know each other, her business is invaded by six masked men. Tripp must act quickly, as he could never live with himself if something happened to Glory. Meanwhile, Glory is in for a major surprise. Tripp now resembles a stark combination of MacGyver and Rambo more than any engineer she’s ever met. Who is Tripp really? Where does the raw power that flows so easily from him emanate from? Is Tripp another bad guy? Glory’s parents have not forgiven her for two of her previous relationships with dangerous men. Oh no, Tripp just cannot be another man that will ruin any chances of a happy future for her.

The police have been notified, and a standoff ensues. Yet, their relationship intensifies while they are in grave danger. The powerful emotions Ms. Kent writes in this story are just as alluring as the danger itself. This story is rather brief - only about 150 pages - but it packs a powerful wallop. Tripp makes sure of two things in this engrossing story: Glory’s safety and revealing the powerful emotions he has for her that he can no longer hide. There is also amazingly intense passion that Tripp and Glory share. All these elements blend together to make Episode TwoTHE SHAUGHNESSEY ACCORD a truly terrific read that you will most certainly want to devour in one sitting.

I’ve got Episodes Three and Four - and am more than anxious to read them as soon as possible. Alison Kent wields her pen wonderfully - no matter what she writes, and this series proves her stellar talent yet again.

Valery, also known as Blush, has wanted Marc for a long time, but fears he will never notice her. Sure she plagues him around the office on a daily basis, but it seems they will never be more than friends. Then she gets the idea to send him some very sensual pictures, of course, keeping her face a secret. Knowing that it won’t take long to figure out who the woman in the pictures is, maybe she can turn their friendship into something more.

Marc has fought his desire for Valery daily and can’t find a way to tell her how he really feels. Then, for his birthday, he gets some very provocative photos, and even though he can’t see the woman’s face, he knows from the fragrance on the scarf who the person is. It seems that Valery has made the first move and is ready to take their friendship to a higher level. Seeing his opening, Marc is certainly not going to let her back out now. He intends to see that Valery follows through.

This is a great book to read if you love sensual adventures. Valery goes after her man and boy does she get him. Marc wants Valery but doesn’t know how to approach the situation. When she makes the first move, he is more than willing to follow her wherever she wants to take him. The sex is really hot and intense; erotic readers won’t be disappointed with this one. A great read of a woman who finally gets her man.

Roxanne can’t believe that she let her friend talk her into a BDSM slave auction. Now she is up on stage being sold to the highest bidder, and now she is under the total control of a man she doesn’t even know. The man who buys her is very demanding, but she figures once this is all over she won’t have to see him again. Then, out of nowhere, a mysterious man appears. Together, they have the most intense sexual encounters, but she never knows who the man is—she is simply left notes signed Simon. Now Roxanne is taking a different outlook on BDSM and actually enjoying it. Before she knows it, she is involved very deeply with her master and has no clue to his identity. What will happen when he tires of the game?

This story reads really quickly, and you’ll be done before you know it. Roxanne is hesitant at first to explore the world of BDSM, but once she finds the right master, it’s only a matter of time before she gives in to the pleasure of it. The mystery man is a real surprise, one that will surprise some readers. Roxanne’s friend, who talks her into the BDSM world in the first place, accents the story. The sex is hot, and the BDSM is mild, so readers will be happy with the end result. Veronica Chase has created a wonderful story of what happens when a woman gives up control and finds love in the process.

Harmonie Ashlar has a mission in life, a mission she considers very important. She helps desperate women get out of unwanted weddings. That’s what she’s doing when she stuffs a pillow up her dress and then enters the church where a high-profile wedding is taking place. When the time is right, she stops the wedding by claiming she’s carrying the groom’s baby. Chaos ensues, and when it looks like one of the guests might grab her, Harmonie dashes through the side door.

A doddering old man accidentally cuts her escape short. She runs into him, knocking them both to the ground. When she gets up, she loses her pillow and sees that the old man has lost his glasses and white wig, revealing a handsome young man. Before she can get away, the police arrive and take both of them into custody.

Wil Bregon, a former lawyer and hired gun, works as an investigator for Astute Investigations, based in Denver. He’s furious with Harmonie for blowing the jewel smuggling case he’s working on in San Francisco, but when he calms down, he notices she bears a striking resemblance to his late wife. After sharing a cell with her, he realizes there’s something special about her. That’s why, when he’s released, he returns to act as her lawyer.

As Wil and Harmonie work on her case, neither one realizes they are about to embark on an adventure that will lead them to the love and happiness they long for—and into danger that could cost them their lives.

The summary above barely scratches the surface of this fast-paced book. Action, adventure, and romance fill every page, and the story unfolds beautifully. Ms. Biondine throws in several twists—including some paranormal ones—that will take you by surprise and keep you enthralled. All the characters are realistic and wonderfully portrayed. At one point, Wil takes the law into his own hands, which is disturbing, but otherwise, he’s a likable hero. Harmonie is brave, smart, and spunky—a simply delightful heroine. SLEIGHT OF MIND is an enjoyable read that is highly recommended.

Richard bears the mark of the raven, which is the mark of a healer in the Realm of the Solarian Wolf Warriors. Just by touching the sick or wounded, he takes on the pain they feel. When he can stand the suffering no longer, he leaves the Realm to help Robert the Bruce fight for Scotland’s independence. Over the next year, Richard fights for the MacGregor clan, but he always keeps himself separate from his compatriots. Then he meets the beautiful Megan McKinney, and the wall he’s built around himself quickly starts to crumble.

The man known as the Raven fascinates Megan. When she learns he doesn’t like to be touched, she considers it a challenge and decides to change his mind. She intends to heal his wounded heart, but when an evil, sadistic man brutally beats and rapes Megan in an attempt to start a clan war, she’s the one who needs to be healed. Can Richard overcome his fear of absorbing the pain of others and heal Megan’s broken spirit?

THE SOLARIAN RAVEN is the second book in the Solarian Wolf Warrior series, and it’s absolutely magnificent! This is an intensely emotional story, one that will tear at your heart. Though Megan’s body needs Richard’s healing touch, it’s her heart that needs him more. As Richard tends Megan and gives her his strength, he grows stronger—and so does their love. Ms. Monet has done an outstanding job making this erotic romance a sweet, touching read. I highly recommend it.

While relaxing in a Jacuzzi tub at an exclusive resort, Mikhaila “Mike” Kublewski suddenly blacks out. She awakens in a windowless room, cold and naked, lying in the center of a circle etched on the floor. Mike has no idea where she is, so she has plenty of questions for the teenage boy cowering against the wall. Just when she’s about to pry some answers out of him, the door bursts open and in walks the most gorgeous man Mike has ever seen.

When Jubal Fengarven, Wizard-Emperor of Gotrana walks into his workroom, he quickly realizes his young nephew, Hugo, has tried to summon a pleasure demon, and even more quickly, he realizes Mike is no demon. Jubal sends Hugo on his way and takes Mike to his private chambers, where he begins explaining the dangerous position she’s in. Jubal informs her that everyone will believe she is a demon and demons that aren’t under the control of a sorcerer are immediately executed, and therefore, she must be totally submissive to him in the presence of others. He sees this doesn’t please the headstrong woman, but he doesn’t care because he’s determined to keep her safe until he finds a way to send her home.

As the days pass, Jubal realizes sending Mike home will be the hardest thing he’s ever had to do. Will he be able to go through with it when the time comes?

THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE is a highly sensual, entertaining romance. Mike is a smart, sassy heroine. She’s used to speaking her mind and doing things her own way, so it’s rather humorous when she tries to suppress these traits and become submissive. An intense, powerful air of sexiness surrounds Jubal, but his tender, caring nature is what’s best about him. The sultry sex shared by these two gives this story plenty of heat. This is a great read for someone who enjoys a little magic and a lot of passion in their romances.

Amanda loves Halloween and everything about it, especially the children. What she doesn’t expect is to be attacked and rescued by a Coyote Breed. Now it’s Kiowa’s mission to protect the President’s daughter. And in protecting her, Kiowa didn’t expect to find his mate.

I think this story definitely fits in with the author’s new type of style. I felt as if there were times in the story that demanded deep emotion and understanding for the Kiowa character. There was true sadness on my part for Kiowa and all that he lived through in his life. I liked the fact that it wasn’t just a love story, but it involved an epiphany for one of the main characters. Kiowa’s character, a strong Native American Coyote Breed, was well-written and definitely a ten on the hot scale. Amanda was such a strong, no-nonsense, take-no-crap female heroine. I loved her! I also loved how the author revealed more information about the Breeds in this story. In the previous stories, no one really knows about the mating fervor, except that it can’t be stopped. Amanda brought a breakthrough in more than one way. It was interesting that this episode of the Breed stories didn’t end in a pregnancy—a nice little change. This sizzler was so good that I finished it in one night. Great read and a great job!

Dylan knows it’ll be a challenge, but he’s desperate to win Holly back. Perhaps ten years have passed, and more than a few women, but his feelings for Holly are as strong as ever. Dylan can sense his Midnight Angel—a special endearment he has for her—still has feelings for him.

Though the powerful sexual connection is still intense, the question is whether or not she can trust him emotionally in this sensitive and pleasantly intense tale by Ms. Phillips.

Shane Witmer and Alyssa Harte are best friends, and Shane is tired of hiding his feelings and desires for her. He comes up with a plan that is sure to win the woman of his dreams. Little does Shane know that his New Year’s resolution and Alyssa’s are right on par with one another. Prepare to be titillated and pleased with Ms. Denison’s charming novella.

Norris Brownell is envious of her friend, Kendra, who has recently disappeared and returned twenty-five pounds lighter. She watches as her friend lunches on salad and marvels at her self-control. She finally persuades Kendra to tell her what her secret is. She tells Norris about SWEET DISCIPLINE, but dismisses the idea of Norris succeeding at the plan. She tells her it’s too hard. This challenges Norris to prove Kendra wrong, and she persuades her to refer her to the program.

A short time later, Norris shows up at SWEET DISCIPLINE. She is surprised to learn that her personal trainer wants her naked at all times and that he plans to do whatever he wants to her body. She has already signed an agreement allowing her trainer access to her, but didn’t realize that included everywhere. Adrian is one tough trainer. When Norris disobeys him, he ties her into an uncomfortable position and tells her that she will either agree to his terms or leave and forfeit her large prepayment. She thinks about Kendra’s belief that she’ll fail and decides to stick it out.

Adrian is a mysterious figure, usually dressed in black, quick to quell rebellion from Norris, and intensely focused on her. He works her hard to help her lose the weight and shape up physically, but he also uses “behavior modification” to help her change emotionally. He knows much more about her than she expected, and he uses that knowledge to shape her into a woman he wants.

The sexual tension between them becomes more and more intense as Norris begins to fantasize about Adrian. She watches him constantly and realizes he is more aroused than he wants her to know. Yet Adrian remains tantalizingly aloof from her.

When Adrian finally succumbs, the resulting session is explosively hot. Once Norris has lost the weight she needs to lose, she hopes Adrian will want to continue a relationship with her. But he doesn’t make any such suggestion, and she leaves the program.

I very much enjoyed reading this book. It takes a health spa to a whole different level. Norris is no pushover, and she fights her reaction to Adrian as long as she can. Adrian is the unattainable, but desirable man. There are scenes of bondage, anal play, and discipline. And thus, it is not recommended for those who find this offensive. I look forward to further novels from this inventive new author.

Renee Atkin hated her current duty as a police detective. Posing as a hooker certainly was not her cup of tea, but it was a necessary evil. Fellow officer Detective Sam Hooper was another complication. Sam had been trying to advance their relationship. Renee resisted because she did not want to be involved with a co-worker. Sam was making it awfully hard to resist. Someone from Renee’s past does not intend on her having a future with Sam or anyone else.

Sam Hooper had been lusting after Renee from the moment they met. Renee keeps resisting his advances. Sam cannot help but wonder why. Working a case together seems to be the way to get closer to her. When Renee finally agrees to become involved with him, Sam is elated. Trouble from Renee’s past comes into their lives, threatening their chance to have a future.

The dialogue between Sam and Renee is wonderful. The author has a wonderful sense of humor. The sexual tension between the two is flammable. I also enjoyed that Sam and Renee had an acquaintance/friendship before delving into a deeper relationship. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

During a fight to protect the Solarian wolves from wolf hunters, a powerful Viking strikes Sable, knocking the beautiful Wolf Warrior unconscious. When she awakens, she discovers she is the prisoner of Eirik, a magnificent Viking warrior. Somehow, Sable senses he will not harm her, so she gives in to the desire she feels for him, even though the warrior in her fights it.

When Eirik first sees Sable, he knows he must claim her. Claiming her as his slave will protect her from his comrades, but that’s not his only reason for doing it. Eirik wants to make Sable his, and he doesn’t plan to ever let her go.

Will Eirik tame Sable’s warrior spirit, or will she tame him?

I loved the first two books in this series, but I have to say that A VIKING’S VOW is definitely my favorite. It sizzles right from the start and captivates you with its engrossing storyline and lovable characters. Whether they’re fighting or making love, Eirik and Sable are intense and passionate. Both are fierce, fearless warriors through and through, but love teaches them that surrender and compromise can be much sweeter than battle. A VIKING’S VOW is a fabulous addition to the Solarian Wolf Warriors series. I can’t wait to see where Ms. Monet takes the Solarians next.

While A VIKING’S VOW can stand alone, I recommend reading the previous books first. Eirik and Sable’s story actually begins in the first book, THE LOST WOLF WARRIOR, a story that provides a lot of background information about the Solarians. And you don’t want to miss the second book, THE SOLARIAN RAVEN, which beautifully ties up a loose end from the first book. Basically, you should definitely plan on reading all three, because once you’ve read one, you’ll be hooked, and you won’t be satisfied until you’ve read them all.

Rating:

Ship captain Jannia Wise is a woman with a tortured past. Physically she has healed, her scars eradicated, but mentally she is plagued by fear and emotional withdrawal, a reaction to her maltreatment by Ganges, a man who brought her extraordinary pain and suffering. Her knowledge that he is now dead seems to have brought her little comfort. Nights are the worst, when she twists and turns but seldom sleeps without the help of drugs.

Her friends care about Jannia and want the best for her, but only a special person can bring Jannia out of her self-imposed walls of ice. Jannia is certain that a special male, Emarr Dengas, a green-skinned empath and former slave who once saved her life, could be the one to do just that. But Emarr has recently adopted a child, an empath who needs him perhaps more than Jannia does. Indeed, Emarr has great affection for Jannia, but he understands that she must deal with her past demons before she can embark on a new journey, a sensual journey, with him, or with any man. He treats her with great care, not wanting to further damage her fragile psyche.

Ganges may be dead, but no one is safe in McPhee’s universe. Both Jannia and Emarr face danger from external forces, danger that threatens their lives and their potential happiness together.

This sequel to INTO THE FIRE is more complex than that first entry to the Forces of Nurture series, and its complexity is exacerbated by the almost constant interjection of backstory to keep the reader grounded in who is who and what happened previously.

Jannia herself is engaging, and the reader wants her to solve her problems, thwart all the bad guys, save all the enslaved empaths, find love, and secure a happy future. Many obstacles interfere with her pursuit of happiness, but Jannia is a plucky heroine, and the huge cast of characters keeps the plot zooming through space, along with Jannia’s ship, the Ice Dagger. With WALLS OF ICE, McPhee has contributed another entertaining episode to the ever-growing list of space operas available in ebook form.
